This test has been designed to measure the component of cognition (called Exectuive Function) that controls and manages higher-order cognitive process.
RELEVANCE TO EVERYDAY LIFE:
Enhanced executive function is absolutely vital to allowing us to navigate the challenges that life presents on a daily basis. Executive function provides the cognitive coordination that enables activities such as planning, problem-solving, error correction and troubleshooting, motivation, regulation of emotion, and abstract thinking.
INSTRUCTIONS:
A colored figure (square, circle, star, triangle, etc.) will be presented on the first line of a two-line display. Next to this
figure will be the word SHAPE or the word COLOR. On the second line of the display will be two colored figures. If the word
on the first line is COLOR, then you must determine which of the figures on the second line matches the color of the figure
on the first line. If the word on the first line is SHAPE, then you must determine which of the figures on the second line
matches the shape of the figure on the first line. If the left figure is the match, press the LEFT ARROW key on your keyboard.
If the right figure is the match, press the RIGHT ARROW key on your keyboard.

SCORING:
Immediately upon completion of your test. we will display the following:
- Performance - This is an overall score that reflects your speed, accuracy, and concentration. More...
Less...
We have structured the scoring such that a score of 100
represents the average score of 20 - 29 year olds on the third time they performed this test. The standard deviation of the distribution
of scores is 25. Thus, a score of 125 represents one standard deviation above the mean, which places the user in the 84th percentile.
Likewise, a score of 150 represents two standard deviations above the mean and places the user in the 98th percentile, meaning he/she
has performed better than 97% of the population.
- Reaction Time - This is your median reaction time measured in milliseconds (thousandths of a second). More...
Less...
The reaction time reflected here represents your median reaction time in this test. Accordingly, just as in a race, the lowest times represent the fastest performances.
- Accuracy - This is simply the percentage of your responses that were correct in this test.
- Concentration - This is a measure of the consistency of the speed of your response. More...
Less...
This is a measure of the consistency of the speed of your response. For instance, if your first response occurred in 200 milliseconds,
your second in 800, and your third in 450, this would indicate that you were unable to maintain your focus/concentration during the test.
However, if your response times were 300, 320, 310, then this consistency would indicate a high level of concentration, and generate a
high score. A score of 100 is the highest possible for this parameter, but it is attained only if your speed of response is identical in
every single trial during the test.
You must respond correctly 20 times to complete the test.
